Purbeck Rangers

Phil Robinson, and his wife Nina have run Green Man for fifteen years now.  We are based  on the picturesque Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, where we have lived for many years.

At some point people ask why we (or I, Phil) called our business "Green Man".   The Green Man that crops up in various guises throughout Britain and Europe has been identified as the character that links humankind with spirit, through nature.  There is a certain magic involved with this link.  Early on in my career in the outdoors, I realised that, by default that was what I was doing.  Using the natural environment as my classroom, people of all ages were re-establishing a link with their own spirit, their own power, their potential.

Phil started working with youngsters on adventure holidays the first Summer he left school.  Since then his journey has taken him from Adventure Activities, primarily aimed at young people, to Development Training in the outdoors, catering for everyone. This year will be his thirtieth year working in this arena and so naturally he has a vast knowledge of the many different needs of individuals and groups.

One of his main areas of expertise is the use of Ropes Courses to allow people to explore and maximise their potential.  He has been training trainers in the use of ropes courses for eighteen years and has a well-established reputation.  This year he became a European Ropes Course Association, Master Trainer (to train Trainers).

Phil firmly believes that using experiential learning within the outdoors is one of the greatest tools for discovery and growth, for both self and peers.  And what's more it's fantastic fun!

As a freelance tutor and facilitator Phil has worked for many different organisations within the outdoor industry.  He is SPA qualified, a level 2 BCU coach, holds the RCD Assessors Award, is an ERCA Master Trainer, an experienced Bushcraft Instructor and Tracker, and is conversant with hundreds of team development/initiative tasks.

However his most valuable skill lies with his ability with people.  He builds rapport with his clients very quickly, which in turn leads to an environment of trust, where people of all ages are more likely to learn.

Phil has acted as Programme Manager for many companies, including, Vertex Ropes Course Training, Grahame Robb Associates, Vision Development Training, Pioneer Spirit and Mobius Development and Training.  He is therefore more than capable of organising and managing large groups and events.

After working for a number of leading outdoor training providers as office manager Nina now employs her phenomenal administrative abilities, to ensuring our customers are attended to in an efficient and friendly manner.  Her knowledge of the outdoor industry allows a full understanding of both the customers’ needs and course contents, ensuring from the first contact, that we are providing exactly what people want.  During her time away from administration she is busy bringing up our two young daughters and the three of them are often seen striding across the downs, through the forest, or along the beach collecting “treasures”, jumping in puddles and generally exploring our fantastic local environment.  Nina and the girls are frequent visitors to many of our programmes, when Nina has the chance to finally put a face to a name of new customers, or catch up with old friends from previous years.  Nina is also a fully qualified Ropes Course Instructor.

Finally we pride ourselves on the fact that all our customers have been pleased with the programmes we have delivered.  We actively encourage feedback, and to date it has all been positive.
